A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place

As some who has moved my fair share of times, I consider myself a pseudo-move expert. Each time I find myself looking around at what I can get rid of, to save myself from moving it and then finding a spot for it the new place. However, I have been lugging a few items, which I would love to unload, with me from home to home simply because I can’t find a place to unload them. Electronics: TVs, computers, VCRs. You can’t (don’t want to) throw them away, and to my surprise most places won’t take them. I could probably put them up on Craig’s list, but they are all pretty outdated and not worth the time to do so.

As I prepare to move, yet again, I have new hope in unloading some of these electronics. I came across the recent announcement by Sony and Waste Management on a new nationwide electronics recycling program. The companies teamed up to provide consumers with locations across the country to recycle Sony electronic equipment at no charge. There is a market fee for other manufacturer’s equipment. The program kicks off September 15th, just in time for my move.

A practical idea to improve the environment instead of socialist fear mongering - Kudos to Sony - I just wish they would extend it to non-Sony items as well. I have been trying to dump my Commodore 64 for years (just kidding, I would never let that thing go).

To limit pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources we should:

Implement a market-based ‘Cap and Trade’ solution
Increase taxes and government subsidies
Buy tickets to see Leo’s latest flop
Do nothing and hope it will get better
Undecided, but we do need to find a solution
