Attention Wal-Mart Shoppers: Please pick up the courtesy phone in aisle 4 and call your United States Senator.

April 18th, 2008

The other night I watched a Wal-Mart commercial that was selling organic coffee. The tag line was “if all 220,000,000 Wal-Mart shoppers purchased a pound of these (magic) beans we could help the environment.” The next commercial I watched had a woman telling me that Silk Soy milk donates a portion of the proceeds to wind energy in the United States and if all 220,000, 000 million Wal-Mart shoppers we could create enough wind energy to light up a small city. Noble effort indeed to stimulate our economy and help our environment.

Then I thought to myself what if the 220,000,000 Wal-Mart shoppers each picked up their phone and called their United States Senator and asked them to vote YES on the Lieberman Warner Climate Security Act. We would not just fund some wind turbines but stimulate a manufacturing renaissance in the United States to produce not only wind turbines but also solar panels and other clean energy technologies. Maybe we could put the faces of United States Senators on the side of the soy milk carton that are “MISSING” sponsors of Lieberman/Warner.

  1. curt Says:

Very many things are happening around the world in the field of renewable energy, but nothing really profoundly and important, considering the whole planet, is not going to happen without the leading role of th USA.
Only this country is able to put together ‘critical mass’ of resources needed to make a breakthrough (but, only after election with brand new team, which won’t be based on the shareholders of oil corporations, as now)

  2. testaduro Says:

If 220,000,000 stopped buying crap they don’t need from Wal-Mart, that would be the best thing possible for any environment.

Purchasing our way to “help the environment” — what kinda retards…???

To limit pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources we should:

Implement a market-based ‘Cap and Trade’ solution
Increase taxes and government subsidies
Buy tickets to see Leo’s latest flop
Do nothing and hope it will get better
Undecided, but we do need to find a solution
