Terra Rossa | Where Conservatives Consider a New Energy Future
Hands Picture
Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and…Climate Change?

Yahoo has announced their top search terms for 2007.

I’ll resist commenting on some of the starlets who were the top searches for the year. But one thing did jump out at me – climate change is way up there. And broken down by straight news searches, so were issues of energy security.

So what, you ask? Well, I think this confirms that climate change has broken into the American consciousness – and the GOP needs to tap into that concern. That does not mean prveying gloom a la the apocalyptic left. I’m talking about knowing when shifts happen among the public and developing thoughtful policy solutions to address them based on our Party’s core beliefs – markets, entrepreneurialism, and “green conservatism” as Newt calls it.

Based on Yahoo’s results folks get a kick out of the latest trials and tawdry of the fake stars of Hollywood. But there’s something else simmering beneath it, and conservative leaders would be wise to pay attention.

To limit pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources we should:

Implement a market-based ‘Cap and Trade’ solution
Increase taxes and government subsidies
Buy tickets to see Leo’s latest flop
Do nothing and hope it will get better
Undecided, but we do need to find a solution
