During my morning scan of yesterday’s headlines I couldn’t help but shake my head.
The saber-rattling antics of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez are back in the news. Ahmadinejad’s Iran faces another round of UN sanctions because of its pursuit of a nuclear weapons program. And Chavez is threatening to plunge the South American [...]

Two surprising and valid new points of view to highlight today…
First, the American Enterprise Institute’s David Frum has written a new book advising how we conservatives can apply our principles to today’s issues. I haven’t yet read David’s book, but an excerpt recently appeared on AEI’s website under the title “The Conservative Case for [...]

In case you missed it ABC’s World News Tonight aired a segment Sunday night on the national security implications of climate change. It’s worth a look.
I blog a lot about how our addiction to foreign oil is a security risk for America. But the ABC piece digs much, much deeper. It highlighted [...]

The threat to America’s security posed by our foreign fuel addiction is real. What you pay at the pump is funding some very bad actors, as shown in the excellent but downright scary article on this subject by Steve Mufson in Saturday’s Washington Post.
If the headline alone isn’t enough to shake us out of our [...]

We can (and should) have a debate about the criteria for selecting recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize. But that’s for another day. Today Mr. Gore has received tremendous recognition for his efforts. He gets a (brief…very brief, please) moment in the spotlight…Congratulations, sir.
But let me illustrate the challenge this award represents [...]

In his address to the UN General Assembly last week Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defied Security Council demands that his nation stop its uranium enrichment program, again claiming Iran is pursuing nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
I seriously doubt Iran’s motive here is to reduce its carbon footprint.
And my view is that pursuing new clean-energy options [...]

Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is already here in NYC. We’ll thankfully be spared a photo-op of him touring Ground Zero. But with speeches scheduled at both Columbia University and the UN General Assembly, it’s a safe bet we’ll get a big helping of Iran-is-not -America’s-enemy rhetoric from the Iranian leader during his visit.
Hmmm…funny, then, [...]

A significant development today from this respected Senate statesman and national security authority whom no one, by the way, would describe as an alarmist.
From Senator Warner’s joint press release with Senator Lieberman:
“In my 28 years in the Senate, I have focused above all on issues of national security, and I see the problem of climate [...]

President Bush supported South Korea’s Ban Ki-moon last year to succeed Kofi Annan as UN Secretary General. This weekend, Ban highlighted a consequence of climate change that a distinguished group of retired senior U.S. admirals and generals already warned us about – it worsens instability and conflict in volatile parts of the world, something witnessed [...]

I’m not talking about Hollyweirdos who want to make a political statement. I’m talking about the retired three- and four-star admirals and generals who determined climate change is a threat to America’s national security.
There’s a new 7-minute video on You Tube containing interviews with these former military commanders in which they share their thoughts [...]

Recently I joined 10 of my colleagues on a military advisory board to the CNA Corporation in releasing a report that determined climate change presents a national security threat to the United States. One of the key findings in our report was that “climate change, national security and energy dependence are a related set of [...]

As we’ve seen on Terra Rossa this week, a group of admirals and generals recently released a report that advised taking action on climate change for national security reasons. What impressed me most about this report was that it is just another in a series of “Nixon goes to China” moments where unexpected groups and [...]

Today a panel of eleven senior admirals and generals brought together by the CNA Corporation, a leading defense analysis organization, released what I think is a groundbreaking report in the current debate over climate change.
Having worked with them on the release, I found the end result a real eyebrow raiser for conservatives.Among other findings, their [...]

These are questions raised today by the CNA Corporation, a nonprofit research and analysis organization that brought together 11 retired admirals and generals to contribute to a report on the security [...]

Environmental Defense, which co-sponsors this blog, may have a different opinion, but kudos to Florida Congressman Connie Mack for calling out Joe Kennedy’s big wet kiss to Venezuelan strong-man and America-hater Hugo Chavez.
Seems Kennedy was featured in TV ads this winter thanking Citgo, the state-owned (e.g. Chavez owned) oil company in Venezuela, for providing discounted [...]
