Ga. Judge halts construction of coal-fired plant

The construction of a coal-fired power plant in Georgia was halted Monday when a judge ruled that the plant’s builders must first obtain a permit from state regulators that limits the amount of carbon dioxide emissions.

Huntsman initiates global talks on climate change

Probably the most telling statement Gov. Jon Huntsman made to reporters at a meeting of the Western Governors Association, as he outlined his plan to take climate change discussions abroad, was, “It isn’t being done at the national level; we know that.”

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appealed Tuesday to rich nations not to backtrack on assistance to Africa and action against climate change at next week’s Group of Eight summit.

India offers 8 ideals on a climate change policy, but few details
New York Times, Heather Timmons, 7.1.08

The Indian government pledged Monday to devote more attention to renewable energy, water conservation and preserving natural resources in the country’s first climate change plan, but it did not set concrete goals or pledge to cap harmful emissions.
