There’s an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal today about “green” companies having an advantage when it comes to recruiting young employees. Here at Terra Rossa, we’ve talked a lot about using competition and market forces to bring about new energy technologies and promote a healthier environment, and this article seems like the flip-side of that coin.
If the best and brightest of today’s college graduates are actively seeking out environmentally-friendly and technologically innovative companies, that gives those companies a clear advantage in recruiting, and presents them with opportunities to grow their businesses in new ways. Non-green companies, on the other hand, could find themselves with a second-tier workforce and stagnant growth if they don’t adopt new policies to compete for the best new workers.
There is a clear desire in this country for new, better environmental practices and policies, and it is particularly strong among younger people. If this leads to competition among companies who are trying to hire them, this can only be a good thing.
