Voters in Boulder, Colorado last month approved what environmentalists say may be the nation’s first “carbon tax.“
Personally, I’m also hoping it’s the last.
Don’t get me wrong. I favor strong action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I just think new taxes are the wrong way to do it.
I say implement a market-based solution such as cap and trade. Create a marketplace that incentivizes (not subsidizes) businesses and entrepreneurs to develop new clean-energy innovations that reduce CO2 emissions and bring those innovations to market.
