As millions of Americans sat down Sunday with a plate of hot wings and a cold beer to follow the day’s NFL action, NBC treated us to some corporate responsibility overkill. Portions of NBC’s halftime show were done in the dark! One of the more caustic commentaries laments Bob Costas’s apology for the use of bright lights over the years. Awk!
I’m not one to criticize conservation, per se, or the cause of fighting climate change. But leave the hair-shirt at home. Hang it up next to Jimmy Carter’s cardigan, please!
NBC could have purchased the energy used for the halftime shows from renewable sources. Heck, they could have even purchased some legit carbon offsets. But simulating a blackout? C’mon.
We can reduce our greenhouse gas pollution and prevent climate change without killing the economy.
So, yes, turn off the lights when you’re not in the room, but there’s no need to sit in the dark.
