“National Security and the Threat of Climate Change”
by Tucker Eskew
December 3rd, 2007

In case you missed it ABC’s World News Tonight aired a segment Sunday night on the national security implications of climate change. It’s worth a look.

I blog a lot about how our addiction to foreign oil is a security risk for America. But the ABC piece digs much, much deeper. It highlighted a study prepared by retired U.S. three- and four-star admirals and generals – each with decades of professional military experience. They found climate change will impact our security in many different ways and affect our military’s force structure and mission requirements for years to come.

I worked with this impressive group of former military leaders to help them release their report earlier this year. It’s as sobering today as it was then – and we would all be wise to heed its warnings.

To limit pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources we should:

Implement a market-based ‘Cap and Trade’ solution
Increase taxes and government subsidies
Buy tickets to see Leo’s latest flop
Do nothing and hope it will get better
Undecided, but we do need to find a solution
