Coca Cola has set out on its first steps to achieving its long-term goal to “recycle or reuse all plastic bottles containing its products sold in the United States.” Today’s Washington Post article highlights Coca Cola’s goals and recent announcement to open a massive recycling plant in Spartanburg, SC next year.

Why not just go back to glass bottles? The plastic will have to be melted down and processed since plastic bottles cannot just be cleaned and refilled. Also, plastic is made from oil which we must import. All things considered, it seems that glass bottles would require less energy ad less oil.
