Republicans for Environmental Protection

Republicans for Environmental Protection is an organization that you may not have heard of, but should start paying attention to. It’s a group of conservation-minded Republicans who are looking for conservative, market-oriented ways to help the environment, and it has been growing in visibility as environmental issues, particularly climate change, have become more important to Republican voters and lawmakers.

REP has an excellent website, where you can not only learn more about the group itself, but also about a wide variety of conservative-minded environmental policy proposals, including the Warner-Lieberman cap-and-trade bill that we support here at Terra Rossa. You can also learn about various political candidates’ views on environmental issues, and see how your Congressman and Senators rate on their scorecards. If you’re like me, the judgment of a conservative group carries more weight than that of one of the liberal environmental organizations.

According to the organization’s website, REP members are among the majority of Republicans who want to conserve, not squander, our natural heritage. Protecting our environment is not a partisan issue. We all benefit from a clean, healthy world; we all treasure natural areas and abundant wildlife. I couldn’t agree more. To learn more, click here.

To limit pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources we should:

Implement a market-based ‘Cap and Trade’ solution
Increase taxes and government subsidies
Buy tickets to see Leo’s latest flop
Do nothing and hope it will get better
Undecided, but we do need to find a solution
