Sour Grapes?

Apparently former Vice President Gore now blames – you’re not going to believe this – scientists for past inaction on climate change.

The Independent (UK) is reporting that Gore claims “the nature and severity of the climate crisis had seemed painfully obvious to me for quite a long time. I wish that we could have had in the 1990s the deafening scientific consensus that has emerged in more recent years.”

As sponsor of this blog, Environmental Defense might feel differently, but this sounds a little like sour grapes to me. And was the D-Veep really the climate crusader he calls himself? More from The Independent:

“Mr. Gore claims that concerns over the environment formed his ‘principal agenda for eight years in the White House.’ But he is light on details of what he did while in office, beyond a brief mention of his work with the Kyoto treaty (which was never ratified by Congress). During his tenure as vice president, America’s carbon dioxide emissions shot up far faster than at any time in modern history - by 15 per cent, compared to just 1.65 per cent during President Bush’s first term.”

I’d like to see the former Veep cap his own rhetorical emissions. (I’m not the only one – check out this piece written by a contributor to the left-leaning Slate.com who’s had enough of Gore’s fear mongering). I’d also like to see conservatives reclaim their mantle as optimistic conservationists and market-minded problem-solvers. Gloom-purveyors like Gore give us lots of room to maneuver, if we’ll just take it.

This report was on Drudge the other day. It just goes to show that that this man made global warming stuff is just a means to implement an agenda. The science (or lack of it) is of no concern to these people.

  2. Levi Strauss Says:

IF GORE COULD SHUT UP (IMPOSSIBLE FOR A POLITICIAN) YOU’D HAVE TROUBLE DISTINGUISHING HIM FROM A POST. YOU KNOW, ONE OF THOSE THINGS THEY HANG WIRE ON AND DOGS……. WELL NEVER MIND. IF, AND I DO BELIEVE GLOBAL WARMING IS A FACT, GLOBAL WARMING IS CAUSED BY CO2, THAN HIM AND HIS ILK ARE PRIMARILY RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. IF AND I FIND THE EVIDENCE FAR MORE CONVINCING, GLOBAL WARMING IS CAUSED BY SUN SPOT ACTIVITY, THAN GORE IS JUST A RUN OF THE MILL POLITICIAN PASSING GAS ( CAN’T ACCUSE HIM OF HAVING A PERTY FACE). HIS ATTENTION TO THE GLOBAL WARMING PHENOMENON IS STRICTLY SELF SERVING. TOTALLY DISGUSTING TO BLAME THE SCIENTISTS THAT HE IS CITING TO PROVE HIS THESIS, FOR THE PROBLEM. A POX ON ALL POLITICIANS.

To limit pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources we should:

Implement a market-based ‘Cap and Trade’ solution
Increase taxes and government subsidies
Buy tickets to see Leo’s latest flop
Do nothing and hope it will get better
Undecided, but we do need to find a solution
