Terra Rossa | Where Conservatives Consider a New Energy Future

The Market! Especially the Supermarket

Advertising Age reports that “some of the reddest states at the polls are among the greenest at the grocery checkout.” In fact, solidly red states such as Idaho, Utah and Alaska are home to some of the greenest shoppers around, according to a recent marketing survey.

It’s just more evidence that my Party would do itself a favor by returning to its conservative conservationist heritage. Fellow Terra Rossa blogger and GOP pollster Whit Ayres has pointed out many times that by being more green Republicans would increase their appeal among independent voters whose support Republicans need to win elections. Now there’s data showing that consumers in Republican bastions are already conservation conscious.

According to the Advertising Age piece: “…green products are getting big – and profitable.” As a party, we say we espouse markets. Let’s follow the political market and the supermarket to growth and success.

To limit pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources we should:

Implement a market-based ‘Cap and Trade’ solution
Increase taxes and government subsidies
Buy tickets to see Leo’s latest flop
Do nothing and hope it will get better
Undecided, but we do need to find a solution
